Passage:  Read Matthew 7:1-2

  • In your opinion, why do we judge others based on the money or possessions they have?  How do we feel when we do this?
  • What would happen in your life if you stopped being critical?
  • Tell about a time when you learned someone’s story and it stopped you from being critical of them.

Passage:  Read Matthew 7:3-5

  • What would you consider a financial “speck” to be in someone’s eyes?  What would you consider to be a financial “plank?”
  • In your opinion, what are the most common reasons we resist self-awareness?
  • What would church be like if we did self-awareness first, and then helped each other with our irritants?

Passage: Matthew 7:6

  • If someone asked you, “What’s the most precious thing in your life,” what would you answer?
  • Jesus wants us to be like him.  That is holding onto the precious pearl.  In your opinion, what happens when someone casts aside their relationship with Jesus to judge others?
