Starter

  • In your opinion, why do people react strongly to the idea of God being a judge?

 

 

Going Deeper and Applying

  • Read Jeremiah 21:1-2
  • Zedekiah assumes God is on his side.  Do you someone who assumes God is on their side?  How do they relate to God?  To other people?
  • Read Jeremiah 21:3-4
  • Is God being fair when he sends in the Babylonian army to conquer Jerusalem? 
  • Read Jeremiah 21:5
  • How do you explain anger and rage that rises out of love versus anger and rage that rises out of a failure to control?
  • Read Jeremiah 21:6-7.
  • Can you think of current events that might be an example of God’s judgment today?
  • Read Jeremiah 21:8-10
  • Put yourself in the city of Jerusalem in 588 BC.  Think through the choice of life and death.  Imagine yourself choosing to surrender.  How would it feel to walk away from friends and family?  What would it be like to put yourself in the hands of the Babylonians?  How would you feel as you heard the screams of the dying from inside the city?
  • Would you say your next is to:
  • Learn more about God’s Kingdom Agenda?
  • Examine your life for signs of his judgment?
  • Make sure you accept God’s offer of mercy?
