Sermon Discussion (response primers in parentheses)

  • Why do we read verses like 1 Corinthians 13 as a mere “how-to” guide for loving? (because we, by default, look at love as a transactional thing. Also because we fail to read the Bible in context)
  • If Paul were calling out our love failures like he was the people in Corinth what would he be write you? (Perhaps some of the same things? Perhaps some things different?)
  • How does our culture define love? (“You pay for my love”)
  • Where do we see this hijacked definition of love being played out?
  • Why do we fail at loving well in difficult times? (ultimately it is because of selfishness)
  • Why is it significant that Jesus laid down his life without asking for demands on us?
  • How does God define love and how does that change everything (“You pay TO love)
  • Is there someone in your life who you need to step toward with Godlike love that you have been avoiding?
  • What is your next step Knowing Godlike love is about laying down your life for others?
