LIFE GROUP Discussion Guide

Note to Leaders: Every small group is different, so we are providing a summary study with additional resources in the Going Deeper section. Please choose the questions that relate best to your particular group.

Starter:  Do you ever find yourself repeating self-defeating behavior?  How do you feel about yourself when that happens?

Engage and Connect

  • Read 1 Corinthians 15:56-57.
  • Think about someone you know whose fear of death/endings/consequences/running out led them to rebel and sin.  Did that strategy work for them?
  • Have you ever experienced church as a place where people act self-righteous?  What was that experience like?
  • Have you ever experienced the “I’ve eaten one spoon, I might as well eat the whole carton” syndrome?  How do you feel about yourself when that happens?
  • Think of ways to express you gratitude and dependence to God.  What are specific words and actions that would show your gratitude and dependence?
  • What is your reaction to the statement: “God wants something for you, not from you?”  How would a person live if they really believed that?
  • Claiming the victory of Jesus means training, not trying.  What spirit fruit/gift do you need to ask God for to get the victory you need?  How will you train yourself to use this gift?

Prayer:  Father, I give you thanks for your victory, your grace; I ask for this gift:______________.  I claim victory and will start by training, not tryingIn Jesus’s name I will live, Amen.
